Automating your Facebook presence using a Facebook bot

قبل admin نشر Jun 23 2015, 16:52

Keeping up with social media and keeping your online community engaged can be a time consuming task. Through Bot Libre you can now automate your Facebook presence with your own Facebook bot. Any Bot Libre bot can be connected to a Facebook account or Facebook page. The bot will manage the Facebook account or page, checking timeline status updates, replying to page posts, auto posting your blog posts or RSS feed, and auto posting timed or generated posts.

Bot Libre bots can also connect with Facebook Messenger. To create a bot for Facebook Messenger see How To Connect a Bot to Facebook Messenger. Facebook requires certain permissions to access certain features. Bots can post to your account from the Bot Libre app, but for your bot to read your users wall posts, comments, and messages you need to create your own app. You can follow the process for Facebook Messenger to create your own app for Facebook, but you only need to setup the webhook and have the app approved for Facebook Messenger real-time messages.

Bot Libre makes creating a Facebook bot easy. Follow these 5 steps to create you own Facebook bot, and start it posting for you today.

You can also watch this "how to" on Youtube here

Step 1 - Create a bot

First you need to create your own bot, this only takes a few clicks, see How to create your own chat bot in 10 clicks for instructions on how to do this.

Now you are ready to connect your bot to Facebook.

Step 2 - Create a Facebook account or Facebook page

You need to create a Facebook account or Facebook page for your bot. If you are automating your own account or page, then you can use your existing account. You can create your own Facebook account from the Facebook website here.

A Facebook page is normally used for a business, product, or personality. You can create your own Facebook page from the far right menu when connected to Facebook like below.

Step 3 - Authorize your Facebook account

From the Bot Libre website browse to your bot and click the Admin button. This will take you to the Admin section that provides several tabs of administrative functions. Click on the Facebook tab. From the Facebook tab click the Authorize button.

This will popup a Facebook window that will have you login and authorize the Bot Libre app. Once authorized you will be back to the Bot Libre Facebook page, now with the account, token, and page filled in. If you have multiple pages, just type in the name of the one you want to use, or clear the Page filled in if you want to automate an account.

Click Connect to connect the bot to Facebook. Your bot will now be connected to Facebook and will check its account or page every day, or more frequently for Bronze, Gold, and Platinum accounts. Do not click on the Disconnect button on the Facebook page unless you no longer want your bot to be connected to Facebook. You can click on Disconnect from the Admin page to disconnect your current session. Note that Facebook account access tokens expire every two months, so you will need to re-authorize your bot every two months. Page access tokens do not expire.

Step 4 - Configure your Facebook bot

You can configure your bot's Facebook usage in several ways. Use caution when configuring your Facebook bot, do not use your bot for spam, or to violate the Facebook terms of service.

Reply to posts

You can have your bot reply to posts from its timeline, or posts to its page.

For an account bot, it will scan its timeline every cycle and read any posts that include any of the keywords that you enter. The bot will respond to any posts that it knows a good answer to. If the bot does not have a trained response that sufficiently matches the post, then it will not reply. You can use keywords and patterns to improve response matching.

For a page bot, it will scan user posts to its page every cycle. You can either have it only read posts with specific keywords, or leave the keywords empty to have it read all posts. The bot will respond to any posts that it knows a good answer to. If the bot does not have a trained response that sufficiently matches the post, then it will not reply. You can use keywords and patterns to improve response matching.

RSS Feed

You can configure your bot to process an RSS feed, and post each new feed item to Facebook. You can enter a prefix or suffix to the post, or enter keywords to filter the RSS feed on.

Autopost

You can configure your bot to post from a set of automated posts every set number of hours. An autopost will be chosen at random. Autoposts can use AIML templates, or Formula responses and Self to be dynamic or programmatic.

Step 5 - Train your bot

You can train your bot how to answer posts through several mechanisms.

  • You can chat with your bot, and correct any incorrect responses it gives.
  • You can add question answer pairs, or default responses from the Training tab under Admin.
  • You can review your bot's chat logs from the Chat Logs tab under Admin, or import chat logs from the Import tab.
  • If you are somewhat technical, you can program your bot's responses using Self or AIML from the Scripts tab.

That's it, now your bot is ready to start posting.

There are already many Bot Libre bots on Facebook.
You can test things out by posting to, Brain Bot

If you encountered any issues, or would like help setting up your bot please email us at [email protected] or upgrade to our Platinum service and we can build your bot for you.

Facebook is very restrictive on what you are allowed to do with their API.

You can connect a bot to a Facebook Page or Profile. Normally connecting to a Page is better for automation. A Page bot can reply/comment to posts to the page, and auto post to the page.

A bot connected to a profile should be able to auto post, reply/comment to wall posts, a reply/comment to feed posts.

It is possible to automate more if you create your own Facebook app for your account. But this would require some customization under a Platinum account.

You can use your bot however you wish. You can connect it to your Facebook profile to respond to posts that your train it to respond to, post your Blog or RSS feed, or auto tweet a set of tweets, or programmatic tweets.

The bots can only reply/comment on posts, and auto post to their own page/wall.

They cannot post to a Facebook Group, but can post to a Facebook Page if you own the Page.

Bot Libre does not put any signature to posts. I think what you are seeing is the app that the post was posted from. Only you can see this. If you view the page as another user, you will not see this.

No, I don't think so.

Our Facebook automation support lets you automate posts and replies to a Facebook page, or profile.

Right now you can:
  • Post an RSS feed to a page or profile
  • Auto post to a page or profile
  • Reply to posts to a page or profile
  • Auto like posts to a page or profile
  • Reply to page messages

When you connect your bot to Facebook you can enter the name of your Facebook page to connect it to in the Facebook properties.

If your bot is already connected to a profile, or another page, then first click on "Disconnect", enter the new page, and click on "Connect".

For you bot to be able to respond to page messages, and use Facebook Messenger you also need to create your own Facebook App.

Which part of the how to are you having issues with?

Your bot can post to either a Facebook profile, or Facebook page. It can post from an RSS feed, auto post a set number of scripted posts, or respond to your wall posts and comments.

For some things, like replying to posts, or replying to page messages, you need to create you own Facebook app and link it to get permission.

Are you trying to connect to a Facebook profile or page?

Currently the Facebook autoposts are just text, but you can include a link to an image.

The bot chooses an autopost at random from its list of autoposts. But you could just have a single scripted post that cycles through a list using Self.

We could implement your requirements as part of our Bot Libre for Business Enterprise service,

You must be an admin user of the page to connect to it.

If a page that you are an admin of does not show up, you can always just type in the page name.

How many pages show up, and how many do you have?

I think the code you want is something like:
// Returns WordPress posts. state TeachEnglish { pattern "^ [verbo pronome pronomes] (to) *" answer Teaching(); function Teaching() { var json = Http.requestJSON("https://teacherbot.000webhostapp.com/wp-json/wp/v2/pages?slug=" + Http.encode(star[1])); var text = json[0].content.rendered; text = text.replace("<p>", ""); text = text.replace("<\/p>", ""); text = text.replace("\n", ""); text = text.trim(); return text; } }

    result = text.replace("<p>", "");
    result = text.replace("<\/p>", "");
    result = text.replace("\n", "");

    if (result == null) {
        return "Você quer pesquisar sobre isso na internet?";

    }

    return result;

Whenever I clicked on "Authorise" button, it opened a popup and collected permissions then just printed "error" and did nothing. Here is shot attached:

Bots can be connected to a Facebook page to respond to posts and comments.

Bots can only comment on posts and comments on their own page or profile.

Refer to this how to article above.

Basic accounts only check there status once per day.
You need upgrade your account to have your bot check more often.

Hey, I would like to make a bot that can take emails and post the text on a facebook page. Is there any way I could do that?

Yes, that should be possible.

You would need to connect a bot to the email account, and to the Facebook page.

You would then require to create a script using Self that checks for email messages and uses the Facebook class to post the message to the Facebook page.

We can create this bot and script for you though Bot Libre for Business services,
https://www.botlibre.biz or through our Diamond service.

We do not currently have an option for this, but replies should be almost immediate after we receive them, so this would normally not be relevant.

You could call the Facebook JSON API from a Self script in your bot, but the bot's response should occur at almost the same time as the script.

We could add this feature for you through our development service if you require it.

With a Basic account the bot will only check its posts once per day, normally around 1am ET (Montreal).
Make sure you wait 24-48 hours to see your bot post.

You can also upgrade the account to Gold or Platinum for the bot to check its posts more frequently.

If you cannot the bot to Facebook Messenger it will respond to messages immediately in realtime. Polling is only done for page posts and comments.

When you enter in the separate posts for the auto posts feature, how exactly does it need to be entered, my posts are much longer than a simple sentence and include multiple lines of text. In the help dialogue it says to separate by a new line, so will one actual post end up being multiple posts because of this or is there a way or code to separate an entire post?

The entire post needs to be on one line. You can use "\n" to define a multi-line post.

so delete all breaks in the post essentially and then put "/n" at the end?

I deleted all breaks, which works. Just an fyi though - the "/n" does not work - it enters into the post that the bot publishes.

No, that would violate Facebook's terms of service.

A Facebook bot is linked to a Facebook page, and can respond to messages and posts to the page, and can like posts made to the page.
